Staithes is designated a conservation village due to its unique character and charm. Its narrow cobbled streets and hidden alleyways are steeped in history with tales of smuggling and its bohemian art community. The Cleveland Way passes through the village with amazing cliff top walks from your front door. Truly an ideal base to explore the area's many attractions or simply snuggle up in front of a roaring coal fire with a glass of wine.
Why not try fishing from the pier or book an organised fishing trip. Staithes is a renowned area for fossil hunting and the kids will love catching crabs in the rock pools when the tide is out. There are also sketching, painting and photography courses on offer. The Cod and Lobster Pub, nearest to the sea in England. Both the Cod and Royal George Pubs serve good value pub food and are very child and dog friendly. There are also several cafe's, gift shops and an art gallery down in old Staithes. A large Co-op is also up on the main road.The Lifeboat station is interesting and you might catch them on a practice run if your lucky.
This area of Yorkshire has something for everyone, making Staithes an ideal base for your holiday.The award winning town of Whitby is just 10 minutes by car - sample the kippers from the smokehouse at the base of the 199 steps, then climb up to the Abbey for fantastic views across the Esk Valley. Wander into the many Whitby Whitby Jet workshops then have fish & chips on the pier, or treat yourself to a meal at the famous Magpie fish restaurant.
Other attractions include; Scarborough's water park and Sea world, York, Flamingo Land and Heartbeat's Goatland, to name but a few. Bike hire, horse riding, golf and swimming are near bye. Locally surfing is on the increase and we are told the waves out of Staithes and nearbye Saltburn enthusiasts attracting more enthuisiasts all the time.
